Follow the steps below to enter international (accented) characters on a Chromebook using a Unicode code. (This method is necessary when using Chromebook kiosk apps like Secure Test Browser, which do not allow the use of the international keyboard method)
1. Press Ctrl+Shift+U in a text input field. (This should give you an underlined "u"(u), which indicates your Chromebook is ready to accept Unicode codes.)
2. Enter a character code directly after the "u" (Ex. u00e1). A list of codes is at the end of this guide.
3. Press "Enter" or "Space" on your keyboard to display the desired character from the code.
For Example: to type "á" --- press CTRL+Shift+u (u will appear), type "00e1" after it (u00e1), then click "Enter" or "Space" (u00e1+Enter = á)
Here is a list of common accented character codes. (You can find a much larger list of codes here).
